On yer bike

Simply saying 'forget the car and use your bike' to go to work, school or wherever is easier to write than it is for most of us to achieve.

The reasons, or excuses are pretty well rehearsed and are probably justifiable, especially given the distance we may have to travel and the obvious safety angles, including speed of traffic and the state of our roads. And of course having somewhere to safely 'park' your bike when you reach your destination.

However, if you happen to live in a town where the council may be trying to promote cycle tracks, you may just find that the conversion to two-wheels is a real proposition. And the more we use these facilities, the more likely councils are to increase these cycle networks, making cycling even easier.

And even if foggy winter nights put you off, why not try cycling just during the summer months. Every little bit helps, both when it comes to your own physical well-being and of course your contribution to reducing pollution.

Why not give it a try, even just for one day?
