Cartridge First, Printer Second
When buying a new printer, try not be swayed by the low price of the printer. The supplier will almost certainly sell the printer for little or no profit and will be looking to make money instead from cartridge sales.

So instead, choose your ink cartridge first, taking into account price, reliability and quantity of ink. From an energy saving perspective we would also expect you to be looking at the cartridges ability to be either refilled, or the possibility to buy remanufactured versions, preferably in the UK.
Then find a printer that takes those cartridges. You may find that the initial cost of the printer may be more expensive than you had initially anticipated but you could end up save plenty of money in the long run.
And when purchasing a printer and assessing its true value, don't forget to ask the salesperson if any cartridges come with the printer, and if so what size (anticipated page yield) they are?
Take a look at Village Ink's Think Cartridge First article as it's really explained quite well there.
